Can you introduce your brand and tell us a bit how you got started?
Our brand was officially launched in 2014. It all began 2 years before that, when we started designing and constructing clothes that we couldn’t find for ourselves in the market. The positive feedback we received pretty soon by our friends and acquaintances, was a stepping stone to launching the business and sharing our designs with the rest of the world. The fact that the two main people involved is just the two of us (sisters) and that we both have different backgrounds, Architecture and Economics, was both a setback and helpful.
It has been easy to split the jobs, Anastasia being a technical yet creative mind, is responsible for designing, pattern making and executing the production of all Mannequin garments, while Melina, on the other hand, undertakes everything related to the business part, i.e. marketing, financing, sales, strategy. The no background in fashion business has been a setback, especially at the beginning, but as years go by, we have managed (at least that’s what we think) to overcome any difficulty or mistake.
What is your favourite thing about working in fashion?
Every collection we create is both a challenge and a small dream coming true. We have decided to stay true to our aesthetics, to do what we love and to enjoy every part of this ride in the fashion journey. Even the mistakes, turn out to be great lessons.
Where do you source your inspiration?
Inspiration can be drawn from anything. It could be an art piece, a song, or a beautiful picture that comes across. Usually, we are inspired by the fabrics themselves too. We love the feeling touching, reforming and giving life to a beautiful piece of fabric.
Best form of transportation?
Airplane. Brings you closer to your most dreamy destinations.
Favourite place to travel?
London. It is an ideal destination for a quick break, because of its diversity and of course because it is a great meeting point to meet with our best friends.
Aperol spritz, simple, classic and elegant.
Monochrome or colour?
Colour is a must, especially for this season
A meal shared with relatives and friends.
Best place to be creative?
Anytime in an early morning or late night. It’s inspiring to get work done, whilst others are asleep.
Cristobal Balenciaga. He was such a revolutionary at his time, he was a true couturier, a man who could deliver such a purity of line together with a sensuous ease.
Pink or black?
We would go both for pink. We could never resist that girly side of ours. Best way to enjoy a day off?
Since it’s summer already, a day at the beach would the best way to spend a day off!
